The basic operation of this software is for drill and practice of math problems. Now, you might think that this in and of itself is boring because we are so accustomed to seeing everything in a gaming format; however, this software is actually practical and useful for the classroom teacher as well as for the students.

Math Crony covers the skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It is very simple to use. The user selects which module they need practice in and then selects which set of problems they wish to do. Each module has 20 sets of questions and each question set has 10 pages with 10 questions on it to give 2000 questions!! All practice areas also vary in level of difficulty.

A great feature that this program carries would be the report panel as it tracks the progress individually for each student and also creates a history progress report which includes the module, how many correct, incorrect, and the time it took for the student to complete the task. The progress report feature also creates a bar graph to show the total number of correct answers made; a pie chart to show the percentage of time spent on each category and a line chart to show progress made by the student over time. This is an excellent tool for the teacher to track student progress as well as a wonderful visual report to show parents their child’s progress.

In general, the program is very user friendly and very low priced. It offers motivation as students can work against the clock and against their old scores to be their times. Teachers also have some control as they can direct students to what modules (areas of study) that they need to work on. This program does meet some math standards through the practice of basic math skills which, unfortunately, many need a great deal of practice in to become more fluent with their mathematical capabilities. Also, all work is saved through the history file as well as through the actual pages and keeps track of which problems students still need to work on. An instructional guide is offered through the use of the HELP key on the screen to offer some assistance.
