The virtual appliance solution enables them to use their existing desktop PCs or servers with VMware Player or Workstation and implement a comprehensive onsite and offsite remote backup solution. Implementing the SmartFiler Virtual Backup Appliance solution is simple and requires only minimal IT expertise. Simply extract the downloaded appliance backup software onto a hard disk on the local network for onsite backup and extract another copy onto a removable hard disk for offsite backup. Similar to our physical appliance solution, complete the initial full backup with both hard disks on the local network; then relocate the removable hard disk to a remote offsite location; connect it to a desktop running VMware Player or Workstation.
